Namibia are the first side to qualify for the Africa T20 Cup semi-finals after they eased past South Western District by six wickets on Sunday.
In what turned out to be a virtual quarter-final bout between Group A’s log-leaders, SWD lost wickets at critical periods as their Africa T20 Cup campaign came to an end.
They were restricted to 104-7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a balanced bowling display by Namibia.
Sarel Burger (2-26) was instrumental in throttling SWD after he struck early in the opening over, which was followed by them losing their second in the third over through a run-out.
A recovery from South Western District saw Letlotlo Sesele and Obus Pienaar take their side to the 50-run mark, but Burger struck again to dismiss the former on 28 off 30 balls.
Pienaar (39) was next as a result of a second run-out, as Namibia stumbled at 54-4.
Brendon Louw’s cameo 22-ball 16 was their final chance as he helped his side reach a team ton, but he ran out of partners and was the last wicket to fall on the first ball of the final over.
With a target of 105, a 32-ball 30 from Stephan Baard, a 29-ball 36 from Craig Williams, and an unbeaten 19 off 24 deliveries from Jan Frylinck was enough to see their side claim a victory as they cruised into the semis.
In the dead-rubber between Western Province and Easterns, Kofi Apea-Adu (3-25 ) and Matthew Arnold (2-16) helped their side defend a 164-run target, as Western Province finished their Africa T20 Cup campaign without a victory.
