Dale Steyn will miss just one game after picking up a groin injury for Hampshire.
Steyn pulled up after the fourth ball of his 11th over for Hampshire against Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. The 35-year-old’s figures were sitting on 10.4-1-41-0 (econ 3.84), having scored a four-ball duck in Hampshire’s first innings 277.
Hampshire bowled Nottinghamshire out for 166 in their first innings, with Fidel Edwards taking 6-50, and they then scored 399 for seven in their second innings, with James Vince (147) and Tom Alsop (99) cashing in. A Steyn-less Hampshire then rolled Notts for 240 in the fourth innings to take the win by 270 runs. Kyle Abbott and Liam Dawson both picked up four wickets while Riki Wessels (son of captain Kepler) top-scored with 69.
Despite his wretched bad luck with injuries, Steyn managed to keep his sense of humour on social media, tweeting to his three-million-plus followers that he’d ‘never had so much attention about my groin area’.

On 11 August, Steyn had retweeted a post from Colin Ingram, congratulating him on some incredible hitting the previous night when the batsman smashed 71 off 40 balls for Glamorgan against Hampshire (Steyn returned with creditable figures of 3.5-0-21-1, econ 5.47): ‘Farmer! Good smacking last night bud ?? Put some ice on that bruise ey.’
Sadly, Steyn is now the one with ice and a whole lot of other medical attention being applied to his sensitive areas.

Steyn anticipates being out of action for between seven to 10 days, which would mean that he would only miss one County Championship match for Hampshire.
