Sri Lanka Women win toss, bat first

The Sri Lanka Women have won the toss and elected to bat first against the Proteas Women at Newlands in the 1st T20I at the start of their South African tour.

The last time the two teams met was in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match in November, when the Proteas Women batted second and scored a convincing seven-wicket win with nine balls in hand.

The Proteas had restricted Sri Lanka to 99-8 off their 20 overs, with Shabnim Ismail producing a devastating performance with the ball to take 3-10 off her four overs.

Marizanne Kapp (38) and Dane van Niekerk (33 not out) led the charge with the bat to chase down the target in the second-last over.

In head-to-heads since the 2014 tour to Sri Lanka, the Proteas Women are 3-2 up over the Sri Lanka Women.
