RR choke in playoff race

The Rajasthan Royals’ qualifier chase was crushed by the Delhi Capitals, who chased down 115-9 to win by five wickets.

The only stand-out performance for the Royals was by 17-year-old Riyan Parag, who scored a 49-ball 50 (four fours, two sixes). He became the youngest player to score an IPL half-century.

The next-best score was 14 by Englishman Liam Livingstone as the Royals’ playoff hopes began to diminish.

Ishant Sharma (3-38) and Amit Mishra (3-17) were mainly responsible for stemming RR’s run rate and setting their side up for what should have been a simple chase.

It wasn’t as straightforward as expected for the Capitals batsmen, who lost their top three for 61 runs in seven and a half overs.

Despite losing another two wickets thereafter, India’s World Cup snub Rishabh Pant saw the Delhi side over the line.

Pant scored his third half-century of the campaign, 53 off 38 balls (two fours, five sixes), as the Capitals eased to victory.
