Warriors seamer announces retirement

Warriors seamer Andrew Birch has retired from professional cricket.

Birch’s final appearance for the Warriors was during 8 March’s One-Day Cup fixture against the Dolphins at Buffalo Park, East London.

The Warriors were due to contest Wednesday’s semi-final against the Lions at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, but the remainder of the One-Day Cup has been cancelled as a preventative measure against the coronavirus pandemic.

‘That’s the end. I’m extremely proud of my career and I would like to thank each and every person that played a role in any way. I leave the game with the most incredible memories, which I’ll look back on fondly in the years to come. Lifelong friendships have been made, which I will forever treasure. Once again, thanks, guys. Now to the next chapter,’ Birch stated on social media.

The 34-year-old Birch took 330, 157 and 98 wickets in first-class, List A and T20 cricket, respectively. He fell one short of 100 first-class matches.
