De Kock fires Mumbai to big win

Quinton de Kock delivered another brilliant showing with the bat as the Mumbai Indians continued their excellent run with an eight-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.

The Proteas skipper carried his bat with a knock of 78 from 44 deliveries to guide Mumbai to their fifth consecutive victory in the IPL as they move back to the top of the table.

Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first – a decision that didn’t quite go according to plan with the Mumbai bowlers doing a tidy job to restrict them to 148-5 in their 20 overs.

Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Rahul Chahar made early inroads that saw the Knight Riders slump to 61-5.

Morgan and Pat Cummins, though, gave their team a total to defend with a 87-run partnership with the Australian particularly in destructive mode with a valuable 53 off 36 deliveries.

De Kock and Sharma on the other hand made a very hand start with the bat by racing to 94-0 before the latter departed for 35.

The South African, though, took the Knight Riders bowlers apart with three sixes and nine fours in his innings, while Hardik Pandya added a quick-fired 21 to get Mumbai over the line.
