Boland back youngsters for 4-Day Series opener

Two of the country’s most talented young cricketers have been included in the Rocks' four-day squad.

Two of the country’s most talented young cricketers have been included in the Rocks four-day squad.

They are Michael Copeland, who will represent the SA U19 team at next year’s World Cup, and wicketkeeper Hlome Hanabe.

Nineteen-year-old Copeland is a strong batter who also bowls some good off-break spin.

Hanabe is a product of Cricket Boland’s pipeline development programme and proved his readiness when he made his Rocks debut in the T20 Knockout in Kimberley earlier this month.

The 20-year-old from Mbekweni in Paarl attended Desmond Tutu High and has represented Boland since the age of 15.

The Rocks begin their 4-Day Series campaign on Friday with a match against the Free State Knights in Bloemfontein.

Rocks squad: Pieter Malan (c), Janneman Malan, Stiaan van Zyl, Zakhele Qwabe, Sinalo Gobeni, Hlomla Hanabe, Hardus Viljoen, Shaun von Berg, Ziyaad Abrahams, Isma-eel Gafieldien, Michael Copeland, Ferisco Adams, Clyde Fortuin.
