Four Proteas have earned their first CSA national contracts, but veteran David Miller’s absence has raised eyebrows.
Ottneil Baartman, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis are the new faces on the list, while offspinner Simon Harmer has again been handed a hybrid deal.

CSA also named a group of 20 Players of National Interest (PONIs) – domestically contracted players identified as next in line for international selection.
The biggest talking point is the omission of Miller, who held a hybrid contract last season. Those deals allow players flexibility around bilateral commitments and franchise leagues, but his absence this time suggests the end of his international career could be near. The 35-year-old has represented South Africa since 2010 and remains active on the global T20 circuit.

Top-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen has also fallen off the hybrid list, while Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Lizaad Williams, Reeza Hendricks are no longer contracted. Anrich Nortje remains without a CSA deal after opting out in recent years.
“With a busy and significant season ahead, it remains important that we continue building depth and strengthening our pipeline,” said CSA selection convener Patrick Moroney. “We believe these groups give us a strong base to remain competitive at the highest level.”
The contracts run from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, a period that includes home Test series against Australia, England and Bangladesh, as well as an away tour to Sri Lanka. Preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup has also influenced selections, with a clear emphasis on red-ball depth.
