Markram breaks century barrier

Proteas batsman Aiden Markram finally scored a ton on England soil for Hampshire in the Royal One Day Cup against Sussex on Thursday.

Markram came in at No 3 for Hampshire and produced another stellar performance for the English side.

Having scored 88 on two occasions for Hampshire, Markram continued to show his growth in England conditions. But this time, the 23-year-old Proteas batsman finally managed a three-figure total, scoring a match-defining ton at the Rose Bowl.

Markram came to the crease with his side on 78-1 and built a crucial partnership with Tom Alsop, who reached his century too. Three well-timed boundaries from Markram took Hampshire to 251-1 after 39 overs.

Shortly after losing Aslop (120), Markram followed suit, scoring his first ton during his current stint in England. He managed to take his side well past 300 and scored 130 off 87 balls that included two sixes and 16 fours at a strike rate of 149.42.

Markram lost his wicket with his side on 335. Hampshire ended their innings on 355-5.

Markram is currently the third-highest ranked batsman in the Royal London One Day Cup tournament, scoring a total of 405 runs in 7 games at an average of 57.85
