Pujara perfect on Day 1 in Sydney

India’s Cheteshwar Pujara put on a masterclass batting display in Sydney during the fourth Test against Australia … and his century Down Under is the Play of the Day.

Pujara’s measured and calculated innings has drawn plenty of plaudits from the cricketing world as he registered his third century in the final Test of the four-match series against the Australians. This time he used 199 balls to reach the milestone as he anchored the Indian batting innings to ensure his side reaching a dominant position at stumps.

The No 3 batsmen extended his lead as the highest run-scorer – and longest occupant of the crease – during the series Down Under with a well-played century that included 16 fours before ending the day unbeaten to put the Indian team in command after the first day’s play.

Pujara also reached 1,500 Test career runs against Australia during the innings. He is currently sitting on 458 runs in the series, and will be looking to add plenty more (and potentially hit 500) on Friday when India resume their first innings on 303-4.
