South Africa beat India by 54 runs in the World Championship of Legends on Wednesday, but failed to make the semi-finals on net run rate.

Australia and Pakistan finished with eight points from their five league-stage matches, with the West Indies (-1.127 net run rate), India (-1.267) and South Africa (-1.340) all on four points, and England bottom of the log with two points.

South Africa lost their first three matches of the tournament – against England, Australia and the West Indies – and wins over Pakistan and India ultimately weren’t enough to qualify for the playoffs.

SA posted 210-8 in Northampton on Wednesday thanks to Jacques Snyman’s 73 off 43 balls and Richard Levi’s 60 off 25.

Vernon Philander then took 2-17, and Imran Tahir, Charl Langeveldt and Snyman a wicket each, as India were restricted to 156-6.
