Major League Cricket

In the last match of the league stage, Heinrich Klaasen scored the first century in MLC with a match-winning 110* off 44 balls (nine fours, seven sixes) that steered Seattle to a two-wicket victory against MI New York.

In the eliminator, Dewald Brevis top-scored for MI New York with 57 off 41 balls (four fours, three sixes). Marco Jansen’s valiant 28 off 18 deliveries (one four, three sixes) was in vain as the Washington Freedom went down by 16 runs.

De Kock stole the show in the first qualifier between the Texas Super Kings and Seattle Orcas, with the Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman smashing an unbeaten 88 off 55 balls (10 fours, four sixes) to lead Seattle to a nine-wicket win.

Brevis starred with the bat for MI New York in the second qualifier against Texas, scoring a measured 41* off 33 deliveries (one four, two sixes) to steer his side into the competition’s inaugural final.

There was no second-time heroics for De Kock and Seattle, as his 87 off 52 (nine fours, four sixes) was overshadowed by an exceptional Nicholas Pooran innings that led New York to a seven-wicket victory – and the very first MLC title.

County Championship Division One

Dane Paterson was on fire for Nottinghamshire in their 321-run victory over Kent, with the pace bowler returning figures of 2-90 and 5-41.

Keaton Jennings scored 55 off 88 deliveries (eight fours) for Lancashire in their draw with Northamptonshire.

Kyle Abbott and Simon Harmer chipped in with bat and ball during Essex’s six-wicket victory over Hampshire. Abbott scored an unbeaten 23 off 34 deliveries (four fours) in Hampshire’s first innings as Harmer claimed figures of 3-26.

In Essex’s reply, Harmer finished unbeaten on 20 off 89 balls (two fours) while Abbott took three wickets for 37 runs. Harmer added one more wicket to his tally before Abbott claimed another three, this time for 23 runs.

County Championship Division Two

In a high-scoring draw with Derbyshire, Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram top-scored during his side’s first innings with 136 off 200 balls (22 fours, one six), before Leus du Plooy notched a handy 41 off 62 (six fours) for Derbyshire.

Durban-born Gareth Roderick scored 53 off 64 deliveries (nine fours) for Worcestershire in their 110-run drubbing of Gloucestershire.
