The 23-year-old Montgomery – who was born in Joburg and played first-class cricket for KwaZulu-Natal in 2018-19 – stole the show in Nottinghamshire’s draw with Essex, scoring 177 off 318 balls in his side’s first innings (26 fours) and 28 in their second.
Simon Harmer contributed with the bat for Essex – scoring 46 off 81 balls and 28 off 42 – while picking up three wickets with his off-spin, including the second-innings scalp of Montgomery.
Nottinghamshire pace bowler Dane Paterson took 3-48 in Essex’s first innings.

Stephen Eskinazi had a disappointing outing for Middlesex in their innings-and-13-run defeat to Somerset, falling for a first-innings golden duck before scoring 28 off 72 in their second innings.

Pace bowler Ari Karvelas produced an impressive performance for Sussex in their draw with Glamorgan, picking up 3-30 and 2-106.
Leicestershire’s Wiaan Mulder couldn’t replicate his batting heroics from their previous match, but delivered with the ball despite his team going down to Worcestershire by three wickets.
Mulder fell for a first-innings duck while Colin Ackermann notched 52 off 105, before Mulder returned figures of 2-11 in Worcestershire’s reply.
Ackermann managed only a single run and Mulder eight during Leicestershire’s final innings. But Mulder impressed during Worcestershire’s second innings despite the match not going his side’s way, returning figures of 4-69.
