Shah takes 6 more as NZ lose by innings

Yasir Shah became the second man to take 14 wickets in a Test for Pakistan as New Zealand were bowled out for 312 in the second innings of the second Test at Dubai. This gave Pakistan victory by an innings and 16 runs to level the three-match series 1-1.

On the back of his first inning heroics, when he registered Pakistan’s third-best bowling figures in an innings of 8-41 off just 12.3 overs, Shah turned up for duty in the second innings and put in a monster effort, bowling 44.5 overs, taking 6-143.

The New Zealand batters made a fist of it in the second innings, with Tom Latham and Ross Taylor sharing an 80-run stand for the third wicket before Latham fell for 50 off 158 balls, caught Sarfraz Ahmed off the bowling of Hasan Ali.

Taylor and Henry Nicholls then added 52 for the fourth wicket before Taylor’s fluent innings came to an end, caught by Shah off Bilal Asif for 82 off 128 balls (7×4, 1×6).

BJ Watling was the fifth wicket to fall with the score on 255, trapped leg before to Shah for 27 off 65 balls after adding 57 for the fifth wicket with Nicholls. Ali picked up the wickets of Nicholls (77 off 187 balls, 7×4, 1×6) and Colin de Grandhomme for 14 off 13 balls, after which Shah took the wickets of Ish Sohi, Ajaz Patel and Trent Boult, the latter becoming Ahmed’s fourth victim of the innings behind the stumps.

Ali finished with figures of 3-46, but it was Shah’s 6-143 that took the Player of the Match honours ahead of the series decider that starts on the third of December.
