Dale Steyn wants to put his ‘PHD in fast bowling’ to good use for the Proteas… and he has no plans to retire just yet.
Steyn is sitting level with Shaun Pollock on 421 Test wickets, but he insists that he has his sights set way beyond breaking Polly’s record. After making a comeback from injury and playing in two Tests for the Proteas against Sri Lanka last month, Steyn has been putting in the hard yards with Hampshire in the English County Championship and, despite the odd niggle, is feeling good about his form.
Steyn and former Protea Kyle Abbott knocked Worcestershire over in three days to record a 113-run victory, with the latter taking 6-39 (including a hat-trick) in the second innings, while the former world number one Test bowler took 3-25 and 3-41 in the match, bowling 27.5 overs over the two innings.
Speaking to BCCI.tv, Steyn said that he believes he still has plenty to offer in international cricket.

‘I’ve played cricket my whole life… pretty much got a PHD in fast bowling, and it would be silly not to contribute somehow,’ said Steyn.
‘I still have a lot to offer. I’m 35 going on 23, really,’ he added. ‘I’m pretty young, pretty fit. Yes, I’ve had a broken shoulder for two years. Nothing I can do about that. I still want to play for a little bit longer,’ said Steyn.
‘I just love playing,’ he said. ‘County cricket or club cricket on a Saturday for a local team in Cape Town or at the highest level for South Africa.
Steyn added that he’s not done in terms of chasing South Africa’s Holy Grail… the World Cup.
‘There’s a bragging right about winning a World Cup. I’d love to have one of those medals in my cabinet at home. That would be fantastic… I haven’t yet ticked that box.’
