Tuskers impale Lions in One-Day Cup

The KZN Inland Tuskers thrashed the Central Gauteng Lions by nine wickets in their One-Day Cup match in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.

Having won the toss and decided to bowl first, the newly-promoted Tuskers skittled the Lions for 89.

Man of the Match Mbulelo Budaza dismissed top-order batsmen Joshua Richards (three) and Dominic Hendricks (nought), before returning to pick up tail-enders Malusi Siboto (13) and Tshepo Moreki (one) and finish with figures of 4-18.

Ryan Rickelton (31) fought a lone battle with the bat for the Lions as wickets kept falling around him. He departed in the 16th over, caught behind off Thando Ntini.

Ntini (2-24) also picked up the wicket of Zubayr Hamza (seven), while Keith Dudgeon (2-21) dismissed Delano Potgieter (nine) and Bjorn Fortuin (13).

Wicketkeeper Dilivio Ridgaard took five catches before scoring 29 runs with the bat.

Ridgaard and Rapulana (28*) put on 47 runs for the opening Tuskers wicket, with Tian Koekemoer then making 24* as the hosts reached their target in the 23rd over.

In Tuesday’s Division 2 matches, the Free State Knights thrashed SA Emerging by 160 runs in Bloemfontein.

The Knights posted 400-5, with Garnett Tarr blasting 192* off 163 balls (21 fours, four sixes).

Emerging SA made 240, thanks to half-centuries from Ronan Hermann (83) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (57), while Gerrit Snyman took 4-31 and Aubrey Swanepoel 3-42 for the Knights.

In White River, the Garden Route Badgers (SWD) beat the Mpumalanga Rhinos by five wickets.
