WP win Women’s One-Day Cup

Western Province completed a clinical victory over the Central Gauteng Lions on Saturday to clinch the CSA Women’s Provincial One-Day Cup.

Western Province completed a clinical victory over the Central Gauteng Lions on Saturday to clinch the CSA Women’s Provincial One-Day Cup.

WP edged the KZN Dolphins, who went down to the Garden Route Badgers (SWD).

Experienced batter Saarah Smith scored an unbeaten 52 to inspire WP to an eight-wicket victory after they had bowled the Lions out for 112 at the Orban Oval in Johannesburg.

The Dolphins needed a bonus-point win to have any chance of usurping the log leaders. The Badgers had other ideas, though, as Tazmin Brits (98 off 74 deliveries) and Jané Winster (4-25) starred with bat and ball respectively, to propel the home side to a 55-run victory.

The CSA Women’s Provincial T20 Cup concludes on Sunday with a blockbuster finale between the top two teams on the log, Western Province and the Lions, at the Orban Oval.
